Treasures of the Deep Pendant II

It is estimated that we only know of 10% of the species that live in our ocean ecosystem. Treasures of the Deep is artwork I have created to imagine some of the 90% of ocean life that remains a mystery to us. I will donate 1% from each purchase from this collection to the Blue Marine Foundation, who support protection and responsible use of the world's ocean.

This pendant is created in fused glass using the crackle technique developed by Canadian glass artist Bob Leatherbarrow. This technique uses glass powder to create islands of colour. In this piece I have used light cyan blue and reactive cloud opal powders to produce the islands of glass. I have capped the powder features with a clear circle and small, organic drops of the island colours. As you can see from the photos the rear of the piece shows the light cyan blue colour and the front shows the reaction between the light cyan and the cloud opal.

The piece dangles pleasingly on a sterling silver pinch bail and hangs on a 16 inch recycled sterling silver belcher chain secured with a circular recycled sterling silver bolt ring. The necklace is presented in a gift box made from recycled card.
